On November 22-24, Rostock (Germany) hosted the kickoff partners meeting for the project Cities.Multimodal of the INTERREG Baltic Sea Region Programme. On the Russian side, the meeting was attended by representatives of the Pskov City Administration, namely, Head of Department for Culture Yury Martynov and Head of Department for Implementation of Cross-Border Cooperation Programmes Kristina Kobyz, jointly with representatives of the ICSER Leontief Centre (St. Petersburg): Secretary General, Head of Development Department, Green Mobility Project Coordinator - Elena Belova and Head of Internet Projects and Marketing Communications, Green Mobility Project Development Coordinator - Olga Iakimenko. 

The project Cities.Multimodal wants to make it easier for people in cities to combine walking, cycling, public transport and car-sharing as an environmentally friendly alternative to driving. The partners develop and apply an approach to sustainable urban mobility planning for such multimodal transport that is easy to adopt in the cities.  

During the meeting, project partners got to know each other, and lead partner told to partners about their project responsibilities and documentation maintenance issues.

Kristina Kobyz gave a presentation about the city of Pskov, and spoke on further steps for applying multimodal approach into the urban environment.

Planned scope of work: to estimate the traffic demand in the historical borders of Pskov and develop solutions for better use of urban space, to reduce the number of personal vehicles and plan a compact transport infrastructure, allocating as much space as possible in the historical center of Pskov for citizens and city guests. A set of solutions is planned to be applied for the first time during the celebration of the 39th International Hanseatic Days in Pskov in 2019.  

Project period: 1 October 2017 – 1 October 2020.

Project partnership, led by the Hanseatic City of Rostock (Germany), includes 17 participants from 8 European countries (Germany, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and Russia. It should be noted that the Pskov City Administration is the only full project partner on the Russian side. The Pskov City Administration budget, as a project partner, is about 6 million rubles, co-financing is 15%.
