{Scientific Conference "Planning of Effective Traffic Management Systems"}

On December 7-8, 2016 the scientific conference “Planning of Effective Traffic Management Systems” was held at Moscow State Automobile and Road Technical University (MADI) where participants discussed general methodological approaches to traffic management and offer innovative solutions.

Transport problems in cities are largely due to the imperfection of urban and territorial planning, the lack of an effective system of traffic management. That is why in recent years experts are talking more and more about competent management of transport demand, its rational distribution by types of urban transport, the use of effective intelligent transportation systems.

Much attention was paid to development of non-motorized modes of transport in the cities. As international experience shows a bicycle is increasingly beginning to play the role of a real vehicle in the transport system of the city in some cases taking on significant amounts of traffic population. In conjunction with the measures for the development of public transport, parking restrictions and movement of vehicles the development of cycling policy gives a visible improvement of transport and economic situation in the cities, raises the general level of quality of the urban environment and quality of life. Thus Igor Markin, Director General of Bicycle Transport Research Institute n.a. M.Walfius raised the challenge of integrating the bicycle in urban transport; Andrey Kostyuchenko, Chief Project Engineer, JSC "Peterburgsky NIPIgrad" and Olga Iakimenko, Head of Internet Projects and Marketing Communications, ICSER Leontief Centre, told about eco-friendly modes of transport as a new look at the traffic management.
